Vie Sociale Divers

Her shift was soon to begin. An emergency doctor, prepared for battle. Feet encased, monkey suit secured, hair harnessed, face masked. Glove? Only one? No time to search. Grabbing another, she greets her first patient of the day. An hour later her nurse giggled, “We found the missing glove, Doctor.” But why had no one said anything?  Perhaps the baby the doctor gently prodded and probed and soothed did enjoy the distraction of the plastic five finger mobile. Babies do see all. But the father had made no comment.  Perhaps he was unaware of a proper protocol, if any existed. Perhaps he was just…
Imagine being surrounded by giant strip malls, prosaic chain stores and conglomerations. Is this where our world is headed? Not to mention decreased quality of products and exploitation of workers. You can keep our communities alive and diverse by purchasing your goods from independent stores. The choice is yours. Earth to Body Natural Skin Care Company’s home base is in Pointe Claire, with our Boutique residing close by in Valois. Not only are we a small local company, we are a family business. A Mom and Pop collaboration devotes much time, energy and focus on every aspect of our vocation,…
The phone is ringing at Earth to Body headquarters. “Hi.  My name is Chris, calling from a correctional centre in northern Manitoba. I came across your website and discovered that you sell shampoo bars. We have been government mandated to switch from liquid shampoo in bottles to an actual shampoo bar. We thought maybe you might have something for us.” He went on to explain. “By law, each inmate is granted a monthly allotment of bar soap and liquid shampoo. However, some inmates are practicing techniques at using the liquid shampoo and bottle in creative ways that are not conducive to accepted…
Earth to body has some pretty amazing employees. Over the years we have had many different people work for us. All of them have either been family or close long time friends. People we trust, people we love and care about us and our family business.  We have thrived because of these hard working, loyal people.  One in particular has given me a story I use to this day in my booth.   Years ago I was in Fairview Pointe Claire working a kiosk. They were long hours and I was in need of help.  An old friend from school happens to walk by.  She was in transition from work and was looking for a job…
What do you call your mother?  I used to call her Mama, but now I call her Mom.   Why do you love your Mom so much? She is very nice, loving, carefree and way different from other moms in every aspect. She’s willing to go off the grid. I like that she’s different because it makes life more fun and unique.   If you had to describe your mom in one word, what would it be?A Pioneer. Why?Because she tries new things and is good at them. She is always trying to draw and paint new styles and she cooks healthy, gourmet food.   Why do you feel so lucky to have her as your Mom?Because she is very fair.…
Bienvenue. It is that welcoming time of year when the spring sunshine dances shadows on the melting snow and sneaks its warmth into our still winter cool rooms.  Welcome to ‘La Boutique Earth to Body’.  Come sit.  Enjoy a respite for a few minutes.  Perhaps you recently read an article about the dangers of commercial soaps and shampoos and you are now considering switching over to something more natural.  You have a few questions.  We have the time. Spring, we all know is the season to fling open the windows and breathe the fresh air.  Shake the rugs, wash the walls, reorganize the cupboards…
We have had many memorable encounters over the last 15 years. This one story will stick with me forever.  Such an experience keeps me going and what makes me love what I do so much. It takes place at the Edmonton Butterdome Signatures Craft Show. A Saturday and quite busy. The day just flies by. I finish up with a customer and go to grab a quick break. On my return a young girl comes in. Her baseball cap is low over her face.  She is hunched over. I say, “How are you today?”  She looks down but manages a small voiced “hello”.  I feel like I should leave her be but I can’t do that. Not in my…
“Look out! Omygod, IT'S going to cross the road. Slow downnnnnnn! A deer. A deer. Omygod, we almost hit a deer.” “It wasn’t a deer. It was a moose. And it ‘s escaped back into the woods.”     Do I argue, discuss, relent? “Are those trees dead from a forest fire or a blight? “ “Does a grisly attack us for our meat or because we have crossed into their territory? “ “Was that a bald eagle or a huge raven? “ “Do beavers make a damn to slow fish down?"   "Fish? I thought they liked bark?” Mountain novices. Eastern Neophytes. Maybe it was a tiny moose? But I love the jabber, the ponderings…
