Comfrey (symphytum officinale) A valuable soothing herb since 400BC. It helps in the calcium-phosphorus balance by promoting healthy skin.Comfrey Leaves have a high carbohydrate content and considered to rejuvenate the skin and to have soothing and moisture retaining properties. They are good for rough, damaged skin and can, with time, alleviate wrinkling and enable skin tissue to regain its youthful elasticity. Allantoin promotes helps sensitive skin to become more resilient, counteracting dryness and roughness.
The Comfrey Controversy: The ingredient, comfrey, is acceptable in our topical creams and lotions. Due to recent, yet inconclusive, data on ‘medicinal’ uses of comfrey*, governments in Europe and other countries have passed restrictions on oral applications. Topical limited usage is recommended. Our comfrey addition retains its traditional, wonderous medicinal properties. We have only accolades on our products and in its over 20 years of sales, we have never had any concerns.
* Pyrrolizidine alkaloids-content have been identified and are toxic to humans when ingested. However, all studies have been inconclusive and the research continues.
