When my parents started Earth to Body I was a little hesitant to use some of their new creations. I was in my early 20's and I was used to the products I had seen on TV for the last 20 years. I came home from school one day and my dad handed me a sheet of paper. On it was a list of chemicals that he said was in all of my hair and skin products ( if they even bothered to list them, which I learned later most didn't). I read 'propylene glycol'. "What is that?" I wondered.  "Sodium laurel sulfate? Isn't that in everything? How can that be bad? " Well, let me tell you, not only are they bad for…
Introducing Eli, Age 10 Every year on April 22 we celebrate Earth Day to demonstrate support for environmental protection. We need to take care of the earth because it's important and it's our home.  The world now marks the Earth Day to make the human race realize the importance of mother earth. Pollution is throwing garbage on the ground and not recycling.  It’s a problem because it affects animals, trees and plants and it gets in the water. Plastic in the water can catch on animals fins and they have to live like that if they can't get it off.  I can help the earth by recycling, use less…
I could say the best thing about working for Earth to Body is the family atmosphere, wonderful staff, flexible hours and constant accolades for my work. But not today. Today, I am feeling materialistic and slightly vain and oh so grateful for their decadent products. Nothing beats Earth to Body. The smooth silky texture, the perfectly mild scents, the luscious feel on my skin, my hair, my lips, my feet. I am in love with all of it, but today I will focus on my favs and give you a run through of my daily routine. Here is what I could NOT live without.   On my lips: Emu Lip Balm all day every…
You meander by our shop.  You see an unfamiliar ‘Earth to Body’ sign.  You do not know us. You are daydreaming, but something draws you inside.  Immediately, you see the fridge display and commence looking around for sandwiches, smoothie drinks, fresh fruit.  Instead, you see small cream jars, slim sprtizer tubes, generic brown dropper bottles found usually in a pharmacy or the vitamin section of a health food store.  Somewhat confused, you continue your perusal.   It smells good, but more like a fresh garden scent than a bakery or food service. The shelves continue to confound.  No food…
Natural products are not the same as their chemical counterparts. The unpredictability of nature requires understanding and patience. We have not been conditioned to appreciate patterns, fluctuations and cycles of life, therefore we find ourselves slightly off kilter as we strive to reconnect to our natural world. Oils harden in the cold. Cream may separate in the heat. Butters granulate. The shelf life is about four seasons. Our conditioning has embedded a notion of perfectionism as we navigate, especially in our expectations. We want quick results. We want them now and we want them perfect…
"Salt is bad for you.""It increases blood pressure." "It absorbs the water from your system.""Salt causes kidney stones." Has this ‘salt shocking’ duped us all?   Table Salt is indeed a culprit and confirms the necessity of salt warnings.  But salt is not all salt. Salt, as we commonly know it, NaCl or sodium chloride is used everywhere and in everything.  There are more than 14,000 uses for salt from deicing our winter roads, to industrial applications of soaps, detergents, plastics, PVC’s, to consumption in common Table Salt.  The ‘salt warnings’ are against Table Salt.  This type of salt,…
“I have to be careful what touches my skin.  I am so sensitive.”  I hear this lament fairly often.  If this is a song you sing, you may actually be the lucky one.   Yes, it may be frustrating that every cream or lotion you try is irritating.   Every time you apply a sunscreen your skin screams.  Every time you try the soaps in commercial places your hands rebel.  Perhaps you have inherited this tendency from poor Aunt Nona who forever complained.  Perhaps your father always suffered with eczema, like you do now, and you figure it is in your DNA and there is little you can do.  It is true, our…
Avocado.  Also known as the alligator pear.  Green in colour and full of adventure. Can be both eaten and worn.  Rich in antioxidants, protein and essential oils.  A fruit not to be taken for granted. Did you know that avocado * Helps protect your skin against the sun and weather?* Has anti-wrinkling properties?* Reduces dry scalp and dandruff?* Is your skin’s BFF? There are some really good ideas on the Internet extolling the virtues of avocado on the skin.  Of course, eating avocado is always wise and in doing so it will work on your skin from the inside out. But feeding your skin from the…
